WHAT IS NATIONAL TAE KWON-DO?
National Tae Kwon-Do is based on an Ancient Korean martial art that incorporates
techniques for self defence involving the skilled application of punches,
flying and jumping kicks, blocks, dodges and interceptions with the hands,
arms and feet for rapid disposal of one's aggressors.
National Tae Kwon-Do teaches the time tested: "Art" of Tae Kwon-Do
which will truly prepare you to weather and overcome many problems you will
face in a lifetime.
These teachings are opposed to the decaying "sport Tae Kwon-Do",
where players compete for medals or trophies of no moral value and indicates
nothing of a persons ability to effectively defend oneself from attack by
one or more aggressors. In actual fact we refer to sport Tae Kwon-Do as "games".
There is a constant cry from all sections of our community for more discipline
and respect from our young folk but these qualities can only be taught by
example. National Tae Kwon-Do instructors pride themselves in their ability
to effectively teach qualities like courtesy, politeness, self respect and
self control to those who are dedicated to Tae Kwon-Do seriously.
National Tae Kwon-Do under the guidance of Examiner General Mr Allen Byrne,
does not use Government finance, politicians, entertainers, sporting or public
personalities or resort to circus-like acts to promote the organisation. Mr
Byrne is of the firm belief that "martial art clubs" who lack traditional
values and quality in what they are teaching will resort to almost anything
to sell their inadequate product. Please be warned as many innocent victims
have been caught out by these schools and consequently the victims which number
many hold the School and their operators in contempt. Please choose wisely
when selecting a self-defence school for yourself or your children - it is
important.
WHO CAN LEARN NATIONAL TAE KWON-DO?
Anyone can learn and enjoy National Tae Kwon-Do, male, female, large or small,
strong or weak, child, teenager or adult
all can be taught the techniques
of National Tae Kwon-Do. All you need to do is make up your mind to get started.
It's that simple!

WHY SHOULD I START LEARNING?
When trouble happens we all call upon the police and solicitors to sort out
our problems but this is usually after the event occurs. No one should ever
have to suffer the indignity and humiliation of being physically attacked.
Whether you are strong or weak it is important that you know how to defend
yourself. One day your ability to defend yourself may save your life. This
should be enough reason itself to start training with us.
Whether or not you have ever to use your self defence abilities
is irrelevant. What is relevant is that you can look after yourself if the
need arises.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF NATIONAL TAE KWON-DO?
The practice of National Tae Kwon-Do imparts to each individual practitioner:
self control, self defence, self-confidence, physical fitness, superior mental
self discipline, high moral standards, improved psychological outlook and
overall strength of character.
Such qualities combined with a healthy, active, powerful body,
benefit not only the individual practitioner and his family - but also the
Nation.
WILL NATIONAL TAE KWON-DO HELP ME GET FIT?
Fitness has become a modern fad or trend and as quickly as most people become
excited about getting fit, they equally as fast drop out due to the boredom
and injuries that a lot of the "get fit quick" programs present.
National Tae Kwon-Do training is programmed so that beginners
are introduced slowly to physical exercises that entail strengthening, conditioning,
stretching the muscles of the arms, legs and body to improve flexibility,
improving aerobic (heart/lung) fitness, become more confident due to stronger
physical powers which in turn makes work, sport and play more enjoyable and
meaningful.

WHAT WILL I LEARN?
As a beginner with National Tae Kwon-Do you will be taught a walking stance,
an L-Stance and a sitting stance. From these three basic stances you will
learn to deliver a middle punch, a high punch, a low block, a rising block,
an inner forearm block and a knife hand strike.
You will also learn how to execute a front rising kick, a front snap kick , a side rising kick and a side piercing kick.
These are the basic techniques that we teach to beginners and
you will learn all of them easily and quickly.
Did you know?
Tae means "foot", kwon means "hand" and
do means "the way of". National Tae Kwon-Do is that and much
more. Not just hand and foot, but also elbow, fingertips, knife hands, knees
and shins are used to perform many of the Tae Kwon-Do techniques. In other
words, your whole body. We will teach you 178 leg techniques, let alone the
hundreds of hand techniques, strengething techniques, human weapon skills,
social defence strategies, take downs, sweeps, release techniques and much
more. Above all, you will become mentally strong enough to ward off the negative
and destructive elements that have crept into our society in the recent years.
Most people think you need to be fit or strong and even fast to defend yourself.
If you are able-bodied and of sound mind then you have the tools to defend
yourself, all you need now is the knowledge. The mind is the strongest tool
you have. Its more about knowing what to do and how to do it correctly when
the need arises.
WHO WILL BE MY INSTRUCTOR?
One of the greatest misconceptions within martial arts is the notion that
all black belts are experts. Too often novice black belts advertise themselves
as instructors, even experts and even convince themselves that this is the
case.
The National Tae Kwon-Do instructors have been practicing and teaching Tae Kwon-Do in Australia since the 1960's and in that time have gained the respect of the community throughout Australia.
The instructors are, by experience, the most highly qualified Tae Kwon-Do black belt teachers in the area, your guarantee of excellence in Tae Kwon-Do instruction for you and your family.
MEANINGS OF BELT COLOURS:
White: Signifies innocence, that of a beginner student who has no previous
knowledge of Tae Kwon-Do.
Yellow: Signifies earth, from which a plant sprouts and takes root, previous knowledge of Tae Kwon-Do.
Green: Signifies the plant's growth as the Tae Kwon-Do skill begins to develop.
Blue: Signifies the Heaven towards which the plant matures into a towering tree as training in Tae Kwon-Do progresses.
Red: Signifies danger, cautioning the student to exercise control and warning the opponent to stay away.
Black: Opposite of white, therefore, signifying the maturity
and proficiency in Tae Kwon-Do. Also indicates the wearer's imperviousness
to darkness and fear.

The above colours have not been arbitrarily chosen; they are in fact steeped
in tradition. The colours of black, red and blue denoted the various levels
of hierarch during the Silla Dynasty.
